VOTE


Tuesday, November 2, 2010 is a VERY important day for all Americans. Election day. We get to decide who will represent our interests in Congress and in our state capitols. Voting and taxes are how we as Americans pay our "rent" for citizenship of our great nation.

As frustrated by our national politics as I am, I will still VOTE. But I don't have amnesia like most other Americans. I still remember what political party was responsible for spending away the $1.7 Trillion dollar budget surplus President Clinton left. I remember which political party had control of both houses of Congress and the White House, who kept spending money we didn't have for unrealistic tax cuts and two wars. Yes folks, I'm talking about the Republican party!

The Republican party wants to cut taxes and spending and repeal "Obamacare". If cutting spending and lowering taxes were that easy, then why hasn't it been done? You don't cut your revenue sources when you have a huge budget deficit! Repeal the new health care law? What would you replace it with? Oh that right, nothing. The status quo is working so well for us right now.

Ok, I'll step off my soap box now. VOTE on TUESDAY!!

I'm extremely disappointed with the President. Over 80% of Americans are for the repeal of this law. Just fucking do it already! Bypass Congress with an executive order. We all know the law will not be repealed if the Republicans take the House. But sure enough, the President and the Democratic party will be knocking on the doors of the gay community in 2012 asking for money. Don't call me, you're not getting shit! We're tired of you whispering sweet nothings in our ear and providing squat!

Buyer Beware

The news media is obsessed with covering the upcoming midterm elections. I'm scared that this mob of "angry people" or tea party-iers will cost us significant long term progress as they "vent" their frustrations at the President and the current Congress.

Republicans keep saying they'll do a better job. Um, really? Let's not forget, the Republican Party held both houses of Congress and the White House from 2001 to 2006 and turned a record budget SURPLUS into record deficits. So much for fiscal conservatism!

We have significant challenges ahead of us as a nation that require tough choices. Extending tax cuts for the wealthy 3% of Americans should not be an option. The Republicans bitch about the stimulus because it isn't paid for. Well, neither was George W. Bush's tax cuts.

I don't want to go back to the way it was before Obama. So I'm voting for my democratic incumbents even if I'm disappointed about the lack of progress on the gay rights front.

RIP Prop 8

By now you've heard the great news surrounding Prop 8 in California. California finally got it right. Take it from us in Massachusetts where the world didn't come to an end 7 years ago as we legalized same sex marriage!

What beautiful words from Judge Walker:

"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples,"

Bravo President Obama!

Today, President Obama made history (again!) and signed the most sweeping reform of our financial regulations since the great depression. Too bad it took so long (thank you obstructionists!). Now how about ending DADT, DOMA, pass immigration reform (with support for LGBT partners!), and comprehensive climate control legislation.

Sucks to be Obama huh? The past president left him with a pile of shit to fix!

In Congress, July 4, 1776

WHEN in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the People.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. Dear Democrats,


We need to talk.

This may be a hard letter to read, but I need to figure out if this relationship is still healthy for me.

For the longest time, I thought we had something special. Remember how much fun we used to have back when we were young, and control of the Congress and the presidency was just a crazy dream? You always used to ask me for help, and you knew I'd never turn you down. You were so adorable when we were courting. Sure, you never really understood me, but I liked that you seemed to try.

The White House cocktail parties were totally fun, and that Easter Egg Roll is something I'll always cherish. Or remember the time you let me march in the Inaugural parade! Other than that whole Rick Warren thing, I really thought we had a connection.
I know you kept telling me that you weren't ready for marriage, but I was willing to wait since you had promised so much else in the meantime.

But now, I've kind of had it. I'm just not getting what I need out of this relationship. You rarely call me anymore, and when you do it's to ask for money. We talked about joining the military together -- but now it seems like you are flaking on that commitment. You promised to protect me from the homophobes at work, but you don't seem to be in a hurry to actually do it. And -- that Department of Justice brief thing was just cruel. I'll never understand why you did that.

It almost seems like you're embarrassed by me in public. I know not everyone in your family approves of us, but before you got your new job, it seemed like you didn't care what they thought and were always ready to fight for me. Now, it's like you're a different person.
Please don't take this the wrong way. I still think we have a future. I want us to have a future.
But I need this relationship to be healthy for both of us. And I just can't get excited anymore by your empty promises and half-gestures. I need you to take a real step. You know what I'm talking about -- the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell.

I still worry every day that I can be fired in 28 states just because I'm gay. And my friend who is transgender can be fired in 38 states. I know you can do it. You've helped protect people from employment discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, disability and many other characteristics. Each time me and my friend have been left behind. It's our turn. ENDA's time has come.

It's our turn to be welcomed into the military as well. I want to serve my country openly and proudly. I was so excited when you promised you would repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell this year after 17 long years of putting up with it. Now, I can't even get you to talk about DADT.

You promised to change. I know that you can. But why should I stand by your side when you can't keep your promises to me?

I get that you're scared. But I'm scared too -- scared of losing you. You need to prove to me that you really care. You need to finally give me the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, like you promised.

I have enough disappointments in my life. I need you to not be one of them.

Wow, Scary!

Martha Coakley for U.S. Senate!

Today Martha Coakley, the Attorney General of Massachusetts announced her candidacy to the U.S. Senate. She is seeking the seat vacated by the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

This is wonderful news but certainly not surprising. Martha hasn't been quiet about her ambition for higher political office. I've been a fan of hers since she ran for AG several years ago. It would be great for Massachusetts to send a woman to the Senate. Our entire congressional delegation is men. It would be nice to send a liberal woman to DC! And for those wondering, AG Coakley is pro-same sex marriage and against the Defense of Marriage Act.

Finally, Some Progress!

Today, the Senate killed the amendment to the defense appropriations bill which would have provided an additional $1.75 billion dollars for additional F-22 fighter planes. This is significant because President Obama had threatened to veto the bill. A veto would have killed the best part of this bill - the Matthew Shepard Act aka the hate crimes bills.

With successful passage from the Senate, the bill goes to the President for his signature. Hate crimes based upon sexual orientation will now be illegal! FINALLY some progress! Democrats have been trying to pass this bill for years.

The President has promised to sign the bill.

Wake Up America!

Wake up America and smell the economic crisis! Our "glorious" President Bush has allowed Wall St. to trash itself and then ask for a bail out from the government. I love how big business screams bloody murder when we try to close corporate loop holes or tax huge profit windfalls (Big Oil) ... its going to hurt the economy, lose jobs etc....stay out of the free market system . . . but when they fuck up and get too greedy they begin begging in D.C. for a bail out. Unreal!

I'm getting nervous about this presidential election. The same idiotic reasons America voted for George W. Bush are coming back - "Sara Palin is great, she'll shake up Washington". Shake it up? People please! Her job as VP is to preside of the Senate and vote to break a tie and wait for McCain to kick the bucket. That's it! There are no other job responsibilities. She won't do shit! Check this Obama ad out . . . its another reason why Obama must win.

Today John McCain announced Sarah Palin, Republican Governor of Alaska as his Vice President nominee. What? Who? An ice cube? Won't she melt from global warming?

I think McCain may have just given the election to the Democrats. She's a former mayor of a 9,000 person town, was on the state ethics committee and governor of Alaska for less than 2 years. And Obama's lacking experience? Wow! McCain's lucky if he lives until 73...and then we'd get her if he won? God help us!

Barack Obama was right, John McCain is out of touch with America and just doesn't get it. Why would any woman who voted for Hilary Clinton vote for a social conservative like Sarah Palin? They're politics and opinions are nothing alike!

Palin is pro-life, member of the NRA, anti-gay, and conservative. How does this translate into a Hilary supporter.

Great Choice!


Eating lunch today I learned Barack Obama selected Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his Vice President candidate. What a great choice! I'm quite pleased! Even though I was a Hilary supporter, I think Biden overall is a better VP pick.

Yeah, the Filipino news channel reported it as we ate Filipino food. Yum! T has rubbed off on me!

Oh and to my Hilary supporter friends . . . GET OVER IT! We fucking lost! Now get behind Obama! McCain stands for NOTHING Hilary does . . . stop being sore losers! America is tired of hearing "Hilary supports have yet to rally behind Obama and some will vote for McCain". McCain? People, get serious! The man who apparently is like the average American . . . right, because we're all married to multimillion dollar wives.

Ok, time to go . . . I'm off to one of my 7 homes. . . have lots of yard work to do!

And on other news . . . its been 4 months for T and I today! It's going great!
