Prop 8 - Another Nail
Another nail in the coffin for Prop 8. Today the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower federal court Judge's ruling striking prop 8 down as unconstitutional.
Unfortunately, this does not mean the continuation of marriage for same sex couples in CA. Judge Walker (lower court judge) stayed his ruling so that is still in place. Their will likely be another appeal to a much larger appeals panel followed by a request to hear the case by the Supreme Court . . . so litigation for years to come. But etiher way, this ruling will set precedent . . . legal discrimination against LGBT folks in slowly but surely dying in America.

RIP Prop 8
By now you've heard the great news surrounding Prop 8 in California. California finally got it right. Take it from us in Massachusetts where the world didn't come to an end 7 years ago as we legalized same sex marriage!
What beautiful words from Judge Walker:
"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples,"

No More Pay, Pray, and Obey!
I'm really happy to see this woman support her son and say that she is a Catholic. The Bishops and Cardinals keep saying they speak for all Catholics and they don't! It disgusts me to see the Church waste money fighting same-sex marriage when it could be using that money to feed and clothe the homeless.

Growing More Concerned with Obama
The recent U.S. Government defense of the "Defense of Marriage Act" (I still want to know what we're defending marriage from) equating same sex relationships to incestuous relationships has really pissed me off. I'm growing more concerned about the Obama administration and if we'll ever get equal rights during his presidency.I get it . . .we're in a economic slump and he's trying to pass the most sweeping health care bill in history in addition to climate change legislation. But at least show some movement on this shit!
The New York Times is reporting an announcement from the White House today in which the President will provide some benefits to federal employees. Thanks for the carrot Barrack, but we're tired of table scraps and what a seat at the table with the full buffet!

Sad Day in California
Today, by a 6 - 1 vote, the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, banning same sex marriage in California. The 18,000 marriages will stay valid.
Wow, BULL SHIT! The will of the people in California can now take away the rights of a minority group. So much for protecting minority groups from the tyranny of the majority.
California will definitely loose it's status of the progressive leader for GLBT people. By the time this gets rescinded New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire will have legalized gay marriage. I don't think the state seems as appealing anymore for me to move to some day.
But kudos to Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, and Maine for protecting and extending civil rights for all.

Tomorrow is the big day in California

The California Supreme Court tomorrow will release its decision regarding Proposition 8. I hope the justices are smart and invalidate Prop 8 and uphold the validity of the 18,000 couples who got married. And if they don't . . . we protest! If you're in Boston, the protest or celebration begins at 7pm on Copley Square. Perfect! I'm 4 blocks away!
And god forbid if the marriages and invalidate, everyone should move to Massachusetts!

All Eyes on New Hampshire
All eyes are on the State of New Hampshire today. Yesterday, the NH House and Senate completed work on legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in the granite state and have sent it to the Governor's desk. Let's hope he follows his peers to his East, West, and South and signs the bill. I think its clear, signing and supporting same sex marriage will not result in you being voted out of office.Come on New Hampshire, be the 6th state to legalize same sex marriage!

Welcome to the Club: Maine!
Today, the State of Maine became the 5th state to legalize same sex marriage. Again, New England leads the way on equality!

Will the "Live Free or Die" State Legalize Same-Sex Marriage?
Today, the New Hampshire state Senate voted 13 to 11 to legalize same-sex marriage in the granite state. The governor, who doesn't have to sign it, has not indicate if he will sign the bill or veto it. The bill passed the House last month but its fate was unknown in the Senate until today.Let's hope New Hampshire will become the 5th state to legalize same sex marriage and be the 4th New England state!

Kudos to Connecticut!
Yay to my home state of Connecticut. Yesterday, the state legislature affirmed the CT Supreme Court ruling which legalized same-sex marriage. Governor Rell is expected to sign the bill. New England leads the way! Oh and we'll take our Iowa brothers and sisters along with us too!Boston Globe: Conn. lawmakers ratify gay-marriage decision

The Coming Storm . . .
Many of these paradoies are floating out there in cyberspace . . . this one was published on Toweleroad
Same Sex Marriage News & Updates

Support for Same-sex marriage seems to be growing in NY state. The Village Voice and other media publications report 53% of New Yorkers support allowing same sex couples to marry. More - Paterson Drops More in Poll -- But Gay Ploy Popular
An Article in Edge New England today discuss how California's once regarded status as being the leader in LGBT equality has faded with that banner now being picked up by 3 New England states. California’s vanguard status on LGBT rights fades
A friend of mine emailed me this link. The Empire State Pride Agenda is circulating this piece on religion and same sex marriage. 3 members of faith communities in Massachusetts are interviewed. It's a great piece, take a look below. The sky didn't come crashing down!

Another One!
Go Vermont!!! Today the Vermont Legislature overrode Gov. Jim Douglas's veto of the same-sex marriage bill both houses passed. Vermont is now the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage after Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa. New England leads the way!
See people, no one is harmed by this! Our society is enhanced and improved when we grant equal rights to all citizens!

Go Iowa! Same-sex Marriage Now Legal!

Today, the Iowa Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage! Woo hoo! One more down! See California, there's nothing to be afraid of! The decision was unamious with all 7 justices voting in favor of stricking the ban down. Hopefully New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine will come through this year too. Oh and maybe California can fix there mistake.
