WE WON!
Today, the Massachusetts Legislature defeated a proposed amendment to the state constitution with a vote of 151 to 44. This is awesome news! Gay marriage is safe in Massachusetts for many years to come! This amendment cannot be debated again based upon rules in the constitution until 2012!
I made it to the state house at about 2:20pm today and victory had been obtained. There was a great rally outside where Gov. Deval Patrick (Love him!) addressed the crowd and said thank you. Gov. Patrick has been a huge supporter of same sex marriage right from the start and has never waiverd. He even marched in the Boston gay pride parade this year.
I am so proud to live in a state that is progressive and believes in equality for all!
Time to party tonight! Woo hoo!
Call your state reps and senators and tell them "Thank you!"
