Another victory for LGBT equality! The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. The bill prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, mental or physical disability. The Senate is also expected to pass the bill and President Obama has pledged to sign it. Democrats have been trying to pass this since Bill Clinton (who was a supporter and lobbied hard for its passage while President).
Not sure why congressional Republicans are against protecting people from hate and harm.
