Miss me? Sure you did!

So after what seemed like a very long vacation from blogging, I'm back. I've decided I need my "blogging outlet" to let out my rants and the other shit that floats around my head. Trust me, lots of shit floats around up their. I believe I think too much about things . . . but that's another blog post in it self.

So here are so updates from my life since I last posted (in no particular order):

1.) Still working that shitty ass sales job. As too many Americans know, the job market sucks (although Wall St. seems to be doing fine, again, another blog post). I've been searching like crazy and sending my resume out as well. Nothing. No bites, not even a phone interview. I've re-written and improved both my cover letter and resume. Many friends and family members have poured over it too. Still nothing.

2.) Car - I did get one! Driving a 2005 Subaru for the moment. It's in mint condition and had 28,800 miles on it when I got it in April. A small victory in 2011.

3.) Nieces - one just turned 1 years old on Sunday and the other will be 3 years old in February. These kids are great and bring a lot of joy to my life. I visit as often as I can and baby sit as well. Had them both for an entire weekend by myself. 5:30 am each day I would hear "Uncleeeee . . . wakie wakie, eggs and bacy!"

4.)Moving - I moved out of the place my ex and I inhabited on April 1. My living situation is great. While the house is no palace fit for a queen, it is comfy and my roomies are great! They love my dog, we get a long well, rarely do we have an issue. Another small victory in 2011.

5.) Gym - fell off the wagon in September and gained weight all winter long. 14 lbs. ugh. However, I'm back into my routine and will work hard to keep it going. The two majors things to work on in 2012 - A.) New Job and B.) Go to the gym 3-4 times a week or more.

6.) Single - January 1, 2012 marked one year of being single after having been in a 2.5 year long relationship. Shackle free bitches! I was convinced by a friend to go out on a few dates with a friend of his in November. It didn't work out. Let's just say he's passive aggressive and we never even it a title of "boyfriends".

This situation unfortunately reminded me WHY I need not date. I have the time, just not the patience. 99.9% of the men I find in Boston love to play games, don't know what they want or are toddlers in an adult body. Frankly, I don't have the patience to search for that .1% . . .so I say fuck it. I'll stay single, live my life and see if the universe sends something my way without me looking for it. If it doesn't, oh well. Worse things can happen in life.

7.) Baby Coop - is doing just fine. I celebrated his 2nd birthday with him in August . . .during that hurricane we had.

Back in Boston

What an emotionally draining weekend! Got back to Boston last night. Brought all my bags in and just crashed on my bed with Cooper. I'm exhausted. Didn't sleep much at my brothers house over the weekend due to the little ones running around (God bless parents!). Although I really enjoyed spending time with my bro, sister in law and nieces. Love love love those kids!

The passing of my grandfather has been tough and happened a lot faster than any of us expected. I feel relieved for him because I know he was ready to go . . . he even told me so. He passed peacefully in the house he built himself over 60 years ago. This has just been such a difficult and crappy year. Looking back, I haven't posted anything positive on this blog. Need to change that.

Today was Patriots Day in Boston and the Boston Marathon. Had to work today . .. first time on Pat's day in a while. Oh well! Congratulations to all of the runners! Not an easy race to run! My boss ran it in 4 hours and 45 minutes. I'm impressed!

I'm off to bed . . . going to re-jump start my gym routine tomorrow.

Status Update

Good morning bloggers. It's a cloudy warm day here in Beantown. Suppose to get pretty warm, almost 80 degrees! Gotta love wacky New England weather.

I finally moved out last weekend. It was a pretty emotional weekend. I love where I lived and the life I once had. But . . .moving on! The new place isn't bad. Wicked cheap rent, roommates are very nice and baby Cooper seems to be adjusting well. Slowly getting use to my new place. Still have boxes to unpack . . .whatever! They'll get done some day right? lol

Visited family over the weekend. Got to see my brother and my beautiful nieces. Those two girls always bring a huge smile to my face. Oh and I also got a car!!! I have grandmother's old Subaru outback (fitting for JP!). The car is in mint condition, not a scratch on it, and the best part . . . only 29k miles! My commute will not be shorter and I'll have the freedom of a set of wheels again.

But the sad part of the weekend was seeing my grandfather. He doesn't have much time left. Has gone from 240 lbs to 130lbs and is starting hospice care today. I think we're as prepared for this as anyone can be . . . he's had a pretty great life of 87 years. Hate to see him go.

and by 90% I mean PACKED. Bitter sweet really . . . glad to be moving on and out, but sad that it is over. I love where I live and hate moving (who does?). The UHaul gets packed up next Saturday. Moving to Jamaica Plain. Great area, have a few roommates but save tons of $$ for the time being.

I guess I'll take the next several months to re-build my life and get myself to a place where I'm happier. I've been trying to get myself back into my gym routine. It was going so well too!

My parent's gave me an Amazon Kindle for Christmas this past year. I love it!! It's convenient, easy to use, and causes no eye strain. I'm in front of a computer all day long and was concerned it would hurt my eyes. And for some reason it causes me to read more books. Or maybe I'm just bored and living vicariously through the characters in the book because my life blows right now.

Same shit still applies - living with the ex, can't find a new place, making no money at ALL at work (and other shit!). I hope I don't have to look for something else. Ugh. Why did all the shit have to happen all at once? My grandmother use to say "I know God doesn't give me more than I can't handle . . . just wish he didn't trust me so much". Nothing New

It's Wednesday already - Woo Hoo! Hump day! Nothing new on my front. Survived Valentine's day/Single Awareness Day without an issue. Pretty happy about that. I just reminded myself how much money I'd save and how I wouldn't have to deal with an ungrateful puss later on in the night. Double win for me!

I feel stuck in this rut of course and just want to move on and OUT! But can't because finding a new place to live in Boston is dam near impossible. Several factors complicate this - 1.) Have a dog. Not everyone wants to live with one or will rent to an owner of one, 2.) I'm car-less at the moment which means I need to live near the red or orange lines to get to work, 3.) Budget - need to sell a kidney to afford rent, 4.) Finding normal roommates.

I know I'll feel better once I move out. That way I don't need to see the ex every day and can finally get some sort of closure to this mess. I'm afraid it probably won't be until April or May at this point when students begin leaving Boston and apartments open up.

*sigh* can't wait for 2011 to be over because this year fucking sucks!

The past three or so weeks have been very difficult for me. I finally said to myself on the walk home today, "dude, a LOT has been going on since November. Give yourself time to adjust and move on with life, your new job and new single status."

I think this week has been the absolute worse for some reason. Not sure why. Poor sleep patterns probably don't help.

Even though I'm sad about the break up and the chaos of my life at the moment, I need to remember that I will find love again and it will be so much better than before. I look forward to meeting that next guy and getting that giddy feeling of anticipation when I see him or the longing to see him again.

Ok, just had to put that out there. Think of my blog as therapy for the time being. Therapy with eye candy attached.

I Will Survive!

Life goes on right? So far, so good. It's been about two weeks since my relationship imploded. And . . . my friends and family seem to be doing much worse with the news/changes than I.

I'm not happy about the pending changes. Moving out angers me so much. It is not easy to find a place with roommates, within my price range that allows for dogs. Cooper is my buddy and coming with me. Someone has to be the responsible pet owner. So yeah, we're still living together for the moment until our lease ends or something like that. That part of the divorce needs to be finalized.

Many parts of me want to write these "sweeping rules" for the future like "never again will I move in so quickly" and "take it slow in the beginning next time . . ." etc. I hope I don't listen to myself. My anger won't be helpful for the future.

God bless my friends and family. They're my rock and have been very supportive. Certainly keeping me sane. This whole break up has inspired me to create new goals and chart a new life path . . .one of which is getting my ass back to the gym! I'll be there forever tomorrow!! lol

Learned a lot in this relationship . . . hurts a lot too . . . especially because I thought I was done with the whole dating pool thing. But, like my friends said, "you can't deal with crazy!" aka my friends referring to dumb ass.

Any who . . . any relationship survival tips? I could use them.

OH!!! And the best news ever!!! My new niece Hailee was born last Saturday night!!! She is so beautiful! Love that kid! Went to meet her on Sunday of last week. Tough drive down. I was so hungover. Was out that night (like all good single gays!) and did shots to celebrate her arrival!

Walls Come Crashing Down

My New Years Eve was shitty. TJ decided to call it quits and end our relationship of 2.5 years. Not going to lie, we had our issues . . . but what couples don't? Shit, some are pretty basic and not major. But he doesn't want to do the heavy lifting necessary to rectify our relationship and work through these issues. This came suddenly. He was never one to communicate this feelings or emotions.

I'm sad and disappointed. Thought he was the one. Thought I was done dating. Thought marriage was in the future (few years away). Well . . . no more.

Cooper (my d0g) and I are looking for a place to live as I'll be moving out as soon as possible. *sigh* The joys of living with your partner. If anyone in Boston is looking for a roommate (please be gay friendly and allow for a dog) let me know.

I know I'll get through this . . . have wonderful friends who are such a great support system. Actually using this to set a bunch of goals for myself for 2011. I'll come out of this stronger (que a song by Beyonce), more self aware and better prepared for the next guy god sends me.

My friends and I will be planning a party to celebrate my return to single hood. Coming to a gay bar near you!

Congratulations to Barack Obama and all Americans, gay & straight, serving in the military or not. The repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell is historic and so important! I'm so happy we finally ended this discriminatory law. My nieces some day will ask what the big deal was!

And on another note, I hope the Senate ratifies the New START treaty with Russia. They would give the President 3 very strong wins in this lame duck session of Congress. 4 huge victories when you include Health Care reform.

However, I think the tax cuts for the wealthy is bull shit. But the employment insurance extension was hugely important. I crack up when the Republicans bitch about it. No one gets rich off unemployment!

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 is a VERY important day for all Americans. Election day. We get to decide who will represent our interests in Congress and in our state capitols. Voting and taxes are how we as Americans pay our "rent" for citizenship of our great nation.

As frustrated by our national politics as I am, I will still VOTE. But I don't have amnesia like most other Americans. I still remember what political party was responsible for spending away the $1.7 Trillion dollar budget surplus President Clinton left. I remember which political party had control of both houses of Congress and the White House, who kept spending money we didn't have for unrealistic tax cuts and two wars. Yes folks, I'm talking about the Republican party!

The Republican party wants to cut taxes and spending and repeal "Obamacare". If cutting spending and lowering taxes were that easy, then why hasn't it been done? You don't cut your revenue sources when you have a huge budget deficit! Repeal the new health care law? What would you replace it with? Oh that right, nothing. The status quo is working so well for us right now.

The news media is obsessed with covering the upcoming midterm elections. I'm scared that this mob of "angry people" or tea party-iers will cost us significant long term progress as they "vent" their frustrations at the President and the current Congress.

Republicans keep saying they'll do a better job. Um, really? Let's not forget, the Republican Party held both houses of Congress and the White House from 2001 to 2006 and turned a record budget SURPLUS into record deficits. So much for fiscal conservatism!

We have significant challenges ahead of us as a nation that require tough choices. Extending tax cuts for the wealthy 3% of Americans should not be an option. The Republicans bitch about the stimulus because it isn't paid for. Well, neither was George W. Bush's tax cuts.

I don't want to go back to the way it was before Obama. So I'm voting for my democratic incumbents even if I'm disappointed about the lack of progress on the gay rights front.

Today, President Obama made history (again!) and signed the most sweeping reform of our financial regulations since the great depression. Too bad it took so long (thank you obstructionists!). Now how about ending DADT, DOMA, pass immigration reform (with support for LGBT partners!), and comprehensive climate control legislation.

Fun Times

T and I went away with his family to Orlando, Florida for a week of vacation. Excellent times were had! Relaxation was the only item on the agenda. I laid out by the pool every day and got some excellent color. No more casper white skin for me!

We returned this past Thursday in time for my best friend Mitch to fly in from San Francisco. Ok, um, I think I've begun to sober up. On Saturday we began with cocktails at my house around 5 and had an excellent dinner at 8:30 at the South End Buttery. The food was really good! Thinking of the hanger steak makes me salivate! From there we hit Sister Sorel and back to my place after closing. Everyone had 4 alarm hang overs the next day. Thank god for Powerade Zero!

We need to talk.

This may be a hard letter to read, but I need to figure out if this relationship is still healthy for me.

For the longest time, I thought we had something special. Remember how much fun we used to have back when we were young, and control of the Congress and the presidency was just a crazy dream? You always used to ask me for help, and you knew I'd never turn you down. You were so adorable when we were courting. Sure, you never really understood me, but I liked that you seemed to try.

The White House cocktail parties were totally fun, and that Easter Egg Roll is something I'll always cherish. Or remember the time you let me march in the Inaugural parade! Other than that whole Rick Warren thing, I really thought we had a connection.
I know you kept telling me that you weren't ready for marriage, but I was willing to wait since you had promised so much else in the meantime.

But now, I've kind of had it. I'm just not getting what I need out of this relationship. You rarely call me anymore, and when you do it's to ask for money. We talked about joining the military together -- but now it seems like you are flaking on that commitment. You promised to protect me from the homophobes at work, but you don't seem to be in a hurry to actually do it. And -- that Department of Justice brief thing was just cruel. I'll never understand why you did that.

It almost seems like you're embarrassed by me in public. I know not everyone in your family approves of us, but before you got your new job, it seemed like you didn't care what they thought and were always ready to fight for me. Now, it's like you're a different person.
Please don't take this the wrong way. I still think we have a future. I want us to have a future.

But I need this relationship to be healthy for both of us. And I just can't get excited anymore by your empty promises and half-gestures. I need you to take a real step. You know what I'm talking about -- the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell.

I still worry every day that I can be fired in 28 states just because I'm gay. And my friend who is transgender can be fired in 38 states. I know you can do it. You've helped protect people from employment discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, disability and many other characteristics. Each time me and my friend have been left behind. It's our turn. ENDA's time has come.

It's our turn to be welcomed into the military as well. I want to serve my country openly and proudly. I was so excited when you promised you would repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell this year after 17 long years of putting up with it. Now, I can't even get you to talk about DADT.

You promised to change. I know that you can. But why should I stand by your side when you can't keep your promises to me?

I get that you're scared. But I'm scared too -- scared of losing you. You need to prove to me that you really care. You need to finally give me the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, like you promised.

I have enough disappointments in my life. I need you to not be one of them.

Hard to believe it is Easter already. April 3, 2010 today. Where did the time go?

I'll be headed to Connecticut later on today for the holiday. This will be the first holiday without my grandmother. Losing her continues to be a struggle for me, not a day goes by that I don't think about her. Part of me doesn't even feel like going there this weekend.

I'm also dreading going to work on Monday. Had the day off on Friday and I'm sure a boat load of bull shit awaits me. Maybe I should head down the street and have a martini, I'm so negative!!

Life Goes On . . .

I never did provide an update to my "not a banner week" posting about three weeks ago. My "not a banner week" did turn into my worst ever. My grandmother passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the age of 82. We we're very close and to say it has been extremely difficult would be an understatement. Can't remember sobbing so much. I rushed down to CT the day before to be with her and the rest of my family. We spent the entire day with her since she was in hospice care. She passed the next morning. Wake and funeral and all that unhappy things ensued at the end of the weekend into the following week.

Today, I obviously still think of her and miss her so much. This past weekend was a bit difficult. She would have been one of the first to call me on Friday to wish me a happy 30th birthday.

Rest in Peace Memere, I love you.

Not a Banner Week

Well, Martha Coakley didn't win in Massachusetts last night. I'm pretty disappointed . . . but won't rant on about this. More difficult things weigh on me at the moment.

My grandmother is now in hospice care and now on morphine for the pain. Her kidneys are failing a long with her heart. Sadly, she isn't expected to be around much longer.

This really is the most difficult and emotionally painful thing I've ever experienced. I'm almost 30 years old and have never had a someone close to me pass on. Very blessed and lucky I guess. I can't stop crying sometimes when I get home. Surprisingly, work keeps my mind off it. Monday, T and I drove to CT and visited. She was out of it , not responsive, looked awful, just awful. So tough to see. I keep praying that when she does go it is peacefully and pain free.

Surprise! Homosexuality is NOT a factor in Abusive Priests

Surprise, homosexuality didn't cause abusive priests! A study due out next year from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice has found no evidence that homosexuality is a factor causing priests to sexually abuse children. Duh! I think we all knew that!

My favorite part of this whole story is the study was paid for ($2 million dollars!) and commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops! Hmm, $2 million dollars, I wonder how many homeless people we could have fed, housed, and clothed with that?

The gay community deserves an apology from USCCB for the hateful and hurtful things they said about gays and gay priests during and after the church sex abuse crisis. I'd also like to see them remove this barrier and allow gay men who wish to become priests do so.

Today Martha Coakley, the Attorney General of Massachusetts announced her candidacy to the U.S. Senate. She is seeking the seat vacated by the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

This is wonderful news but certainly not surprising. Martha hasn't been quiet about her ambition for higher political office. I've been a fan of hers since she ran for AG several years ago. It would be great for Massachusetts to send a woman to the Senate. Our entire congressional delegation is men. It would be nice to send a liberal woman to DC! And for those wondering, AG Coakley is pro-same sex marriage and against the Defense of Marriage Act.

Unfortunately, President Barack Obama was in Boston for Sen. Ted Kennedy's funeral. Sad because "Uncle Teddy" was quite the guy! The mass was about 2 blocks from my work. I got word that Huntington Avenue was being shut down for a few minutes. I knew this meant the President was coming down this way. Sooo . . . he drove right by and looked right at us!! Here are a few pics of his car and motorcade. Pretty amazing how much security he has to travel with.

We've had some great weather in Boston lately. Yesterday, sunny, beautiful and no humidity! I wish I had gone to the beach! T and I decided to have a quiet and restful weekend - no visits anywhere, no trips, no plans. It has been great just laying low for once. Our summer has been wicked busy with traveling, my cousins wedding last weekend, trips to CT etc. Work is crazy in August for me so a chill weekend is so appreciated.

I bought T a blue ray dvd player for his birthday a few weeks ago. Its the one that connects directly to netflix. Its fuckin awesome! We can watch instant movies whenever . . . and so I'm not addicted to Heroes. I wish I had started watching it when it first came out. Oh well, we can keep netflixing them!

Today, the Senate killed the amendment to the defense appropriations bill which would have provided an additional $1.75 billion dollars for additional F-22 fighter planes. This is significant because President Obama had threatened to veto the bill. A veto would have killed the best part of this bill - the Matthew Shepard Act aka the hate crimes bills.

With successful passage from the Senate, the bill goes to the President for his signature. Hate crimes based upon sexual orientation will now be illegal! FINALLY some progress! Democrats have been trying to pass this bill for years.

The President has promised to sign the bill.

Stressed the fuck out is a great way to describe me lately. The past two weeks at work have been very difficult. My particular job (actually, more like my title) places me in the line of fire with people who get upset quickly if they do not get there way. And we all know how easy it is for people to blast off an unpleasant, derogatory email or to call your office and rip your head off.

This is what I've been dealing with, all day, everyday since I returned from vacation. I work with college students. 99% of the students I work and interact with are awesome and make my job fun, exciting, and worth while. But 1% of the students and mostly there parents can make going to work a living HELL!

Anxiety attacks have been driving me crazy and become more frequent due to this. I try not let these things bother me because I do have thick skin. However, a constant onslaught of complaints, whining, yelling and crying, all directed toward you can wear you down. Unfortunately, my prescription of Xanax has to be used to bring these attacks under control. Definitely not something I enjoy having to do.

This leaves me stressed, frustrated, cranky, and angry throughout the day. I don't like the way I feel when this happens. It makes work and life overall less enjoyable. I can't wait for the next month and a half to be over with . . . so I can put this behind me and just feel better.

Thank you T for just being available, listening to me, supporting me, and for your hugs and kisses when I need them most. I love you.

Back from Vacation

I'm back from my week long stint out West. T and I had an amazing time!! We spent time with my best friend from college Mitch and had a blast. Friday night we split up to spend quality time with friends. He went to a baseball game with his college roommates and I went to dinner with Mitch. We did some heavy "swillin" as my brother would say and hit up three gay bars to round out the night. Not really sure how I didn't wake up with a hangover the next morning . . . although I was pretty tired.

But anyway, T and I were also in San Francisco to attend the 19th Biennial Convention of Dignity USA. Dignity USA is the largest LGBT Catholic organization in the U.S. with over 40 chapters throughout the U.S. We're members of the Boston chapter.

We had a terrific time and met so many awesome people, all working for a more inclusive and welcoming Catholic Church. The vision statement:

DignityUSA envisions and works for a time when Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Catholics are affirmed and experience dignity through the integration of their spirituality with their sexuality, and as beloved persons of God participate fully in all aspects of life within the Church and Society.

It really is a great way to integrate who you are with your Catholicism. And yes, you CAN be gay and Catholic!
